2019 NewsTo returning customers, we'd like to thank you for your custom in 2018. Overall we exceeded 1,200 miles and 1,100 locks during a comparatively short season, and wish we could have done more.
However, we are working on other opportunities over the winter and so this means that SafeBoatMovers will not be operating crews in 2019. We hope to relaunch in 2020 with more and better service offers. Best wishes for the New Year! |

More Questions? Here's some we've been asked before.
How does SBM price up the journey?
We use an online tool, from CanalPlan to identify the best possible route, We factor in time of year (e.g. summers are busier on the waterways but we can work for longer) and ensure that there are no planned stoppages on the route. We also factor in number of locks and bridges to your destination.
Once we’ve figured out how many days it will take to move the boat, we add on fuel costs for us getting to and from journey start to journey end and then home. We also consider how many crew do we need to be safe.
If there are mooring or passage fees associated with overnight stops, these will also be added into the quotation.
Finally, if we need to fill up your boat with diesel or other consumables along the way, we will produce receipts to show you what we’ve spent on your behalf.
How can you pay SBM?
To secure your dates, we ask that you pay a deposit of 30% of the quotation as soon as possible, with the remainder of the quote being paid prior to the start of the journey.
You can use cash, PayPal or direct bank transfer, and we even accept ApplePay if you have the app set up.
Why should you use SBM to move your boat?
SBM looks after your boat as if it was one of our own.
We check the engine oil and weed hatch before starting each day and we re-grease the stern gland and check the bilge each evening.
During the journey, our boat transport operators do not leave your boat unattended on the towpath, so your possessions remain secure in our control. If for whatever reason your possessions or the boat itself have any kind of accident while we’re in control, we are fully insured for both third party and damages.
What happens if the boat breaks down during the journey?
If the boat breaks down during the journey, we will look to fix the boat if we can and will call the RCR on your behalf if it’s something more serious. (The RCR is like the boat equivalent of the RAC and is the best place to obtain this type of breakdowns coverage.)
We’ll stay with the boat and be on hand to discuss options with the RCR, keeping you fully aware of what’s going on by phone and text.
Whatever happens, we will not abandon you or the boat and will help you make arrangements with local marinas or boatyards if repairs are beyond the capability of the RCR. All costs associated with breakdown remain your responsibility.
